The Gut and Hormone Connection

Do you know that your gut, your brain, and your hormones are all connected? What does that mean? Well, it means that if you are struggling with hormone issues anywhere from acne, irregular, cycles, PMS to polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometriosis, infertility and hormone related cancer, that a big part of the cause can be coming from gut dysfunction.

Your gut houses a huge part of your immune system called the Microbiome. The microbiome is an ecosystem that should be full of healthy bacteria. These healthy bacteria support our immune system functions, among many other things. When these bacteria become damaged this microbiome ecosystem becomes vulnerable to unhealthy bacterias, viruses, and parasites which can make themselves at home in your gut.

These “bad bugs” can release toxins into your circulation which therefore stimulates your “fight or flight” response aka stress response and inflammation. This response ultimately tells your brain to alter hormone production. Here is the point. If you have hormone related issues, you must remember that balancing your hormones requires much more than just treating hormones with hormone replacement therapy or hormone supporting herbs. And that considering the connection between your gut and your brain is imperative. If your hormones are out of balance, then you have to uncover what is causing them to change with comprehensive and complete functional testing.
